What your Ba Zi chart shows
The Four Pillars
Year, month, day and hour — each a Heavenly Stem over an Earthly Branch. Eight characters in total (八字, "ba zi"), the blueprint of your birth moment.
Your Day Master
The stem of your day pillar — this is you. One of ten archetypes, from Yang Wood (the tree) to Yin Water (the rain), it anchors how the whole chart is read.
Five Element balance
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water across your pillars. Which you have in abundance — and which you lack — shapes strengths, timing and lucky elements.
Why this calculator is accurate
Li Chun, not Chinese New Year
The Ba Zi year turns at Li Chun — the solar term around February 4 — not at Chinese New Year. Most free calculators use Chinese New Year and return the wrong year pillar for anyone born in January or early February.
This calculator computes the exact solar terms with Swiss Ephemeris and adjusts the day boundary correctly, so your pillars are right even across the cusp.

Ba Zi calculator questions
What is Ba Zi?
Ba Zi (八字), or the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a Chinese astrology system built from your birth year, month, day and hour. Each pillar pairs a Heavenly Stem with an Earthly Branch — eight characters in total, which is what "ba zi" means.
How is a Ba Zi chart calculated?
Each pillar maps your birth moment onto the Chinese sexagenary (ganzhi) calendar: the year pillar changes at Li Chun (~Feb 4), the month pillar follows the 24 solar terms, the day pillar comes from the continuous sexagenary day count, and the hour pillar from your birth time. This tool uses Swiss Ephemeris for solar-term precision.
What is a Day Master?
The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar — it represents you. It is one of ten stems (e.g. Yang Wood, Yin Fire) and is the anchor from which the rest of the chart is read.
How accurate is this (Li Chun vs Chinese New Year)?
The Ba Zi year begins at Li Chun (~Feb 4), not Chinese New Year. Many free calculators use Chinese New Year and return the wrong year pillar for January and early-February births. This calculator uses the correct Li Chun boundary with Swiss Ephemeris solar terms.
How do I read a Ba Zi chart?
Start with your Day Master — it is you. Then look at the five elements across your pillars and how balanced they are. The relationships between your Day Master and the other stems and branches (the Ten Gods) describe personality, relationships, career and timing.
What is the 10-year luck cycle (Da Yun)?
Da Yun (大運), your Luck Pillars, is a sequence of ten-year periods that layer over your natal chart to show how fortune shifts across life. It needs your gender and exact birth time, so it is part of a full Ba Zi reading rather than the free chart.
